Dreaming of a vibrator gift?

You’re making a wish list and checking it twice. But, how do you ask for what you really want? We asked our Smile Makers Instagram community to share their experiences with receiving vibrators as gifts.

  • 68% of the participants are dreaming of receiving a vibrator this holiday season
  • People need ideas on how add sexual pleasure to their festive wish list, with over three quarters unsure how to ask.
  • 76% of people said they’ve never been gifted a vibrator
  • When vibrator gifts are received, 57% are from partners & 36% from friends!
  • Our vibrator gift guide is a great starting point for sex-positive inspiration. Now, let’s unwrap what we learned from you...

Have you ever received a vibrator as a gift?

From close to 1,000 participants, only 24% have been gifted a vibrator before. In a world where skincare, toothbrushes, fitness gadgets and experiences are not-so-unexpected presents; should this number be higher? As we know, it’s just as important to look after our sexual wellbeing as it is our physical and mental. 2020 has put us all in self-care overdrive, and wellness gifts are on the rise! Plus, it goes without saying that sexual pleasure raises a smile or two (*cough* Smile Makers *cough*). Therefore, sex toys certainly tick the practical yet fun gift criteria.

    Who bought it for you?

If there are any partners out there struggling for festive gift ideas, have you considered surprising your special someone with sexual pleasure? Our community revealed that 57% of them have received vibrators from their partners. Using a vibrator during sex can be an excellent way to learn about each other’s likes, rediscover your bodies and try something new. As the recipient, trying couple play can reignite your sexual desire or take sexting to the next level for long distance relationships.

There are also plenty of friends come BFFs, with one third of vibrators received from your friendship circles! Passing on pleasure recommendations and creating conversations around our sensual experiences could be an enriching bonding session and gifting a vibrator can kickstart that. Whether it’s a new take on best friend charms or, as our community shared, groups of friends pulling together a kitty for a mate who needs some extra self-loving; friends are putting in the work to breakdown sexuality taboos.

Special shoutout to the mothers reminding you that sex is an exciting and wonderful thing to be curious about, the roommate who wanted to bring sexual joy to the home and the one friend-with-benefit who bought a vibrator as a gift!

    People want vibrators for Christmas.

Yes, yes you do! 68% of the community shared they are dreaming of a vibrator wrapped up in a bow. Well, okay, gift wrap method is optional. However, this does prove that sexual pleasure is in high-demand for gifting season and this shouldn’t be ignored! Whilst we’ve created a safe space for you to treat yourself - every Smile Maker is discreetly packaged and labelled for delivery as well as your bank statement tactfully reading Ramblin’ Brands Limited (our parent company) - perhaps it can be a bit puzzling trying to tell other people what you want. More than three quarters of you agreed that your Santa may need a little help, and that you need ideas on how to ask for a vibrator.

How to add a vibrator to your gift wish list.

So, how do we put sexual pleasure on the list? More than ever before we are being conscious about the product we consume, and a priority for many of us is to be less wasteful. As a result, we’re much more thoughtful in response to questions like ‘what do you want for Christmas?’; we would like things that are meaningful, fulfilling and useful. From what you’ve told us, vibrators are gifts that vulva owners really want. So, here’s some tips from both you and us to help make some holiday wishes come true...

    1. ‘Send them a link and hope they take the hint.’ Modern day directness. How many links is too many hints?
    2. ‘In the words ‘something that gives me pleasure'’ This is a great conversation starter which could lead to discussing with a partner what we enjoy or suggestions from friends, too!
    3. ‘Um, vibrator? What are we ashamed of?’ We couldn’t love this response any more, but for many of us it can be hard to share our intimate desires out loud. A work-in-progress for the new year, right?
    4. ‘Start by sharing Instagram posts of ones you like.’ A sliding into our DMs that we can get onboard with, @SmileMakersCollection just in case 😉
    5. ‘Really just open up and talk about it.’ This could be the perfect opportunity to communicate some things and conjure up some inspiration together.
    6. ‘Make a lil note of appreciation.’ We’re not talking an entire pitch but making a note on your list as to why a vibrator would be the best gift ever (you may need a really long piece of paper for your list) could lay some pleasure foundations.
    7. ‘Have two wish lists, the NSFW one and the one that can be seen by family and other polite company’ Such simplicity! Creating a not-safe-for-work list means you segment your festive wishes by the person gifting.
    8. Make a game out of it! Take our how-to-choose quiz in company, and then say ‘Hey, have you done the Smile Makers quiz yet?’

Happy list writing, everyone! Special thanks to our IG community for all the brilliant tips and insights.
